DAY 1 : ARRIVAL IN ANTANANARIVO

Upon arrival at Ivato International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel in Antananarivo. The capital city, spread across a series of hills, offers a first glimpse into Madagascar’s cultural and historical heritage. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a short orientation drive through the upper and lower town. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax after your international flight.

DAY 2: ANTANANARIVO – ANDASIBE 

Around 5 hours Today, after your breakfast, we are going to Andasibe, east of Antananarivo. On the road, we will visit the Peyreiras reserve, a reptile park where you will see different types of chameleons, frogs, crocodiles, geckos, butterflies and lemurs. We will continue to Andasibe after the visit. When we arrive, we will check you into your hotel and be ready for a nighttime tour to see the lemurs, frogs and chameleons active at night. Overnight in Andasibe at Cyperus hotel or similar.

DAY 3: ANALAMAZAOTRA & MITSINJO RESERVE

Early morning visit to Analamazaotra National Park, part of Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, famous for the Indri indri, the largest living lemur. During the guided walk, you may also spot diademed sifakas, common brown lemurs, and endemic birds. In the afternoon, continue to Mitsinjo Community Reserve for another forest exploration in a more pristine environment. Mitsinjo is known for its conservation initiatives and rich biodiversity.

DAY 4: ANDASIBE – PALMARIUM RESERVE – around 3 hours

Today, we will continue our journey towards the Palmarium Reserve on National Road 2. When we arrive in Manambato, we will travel to the reserve by boat on the Pangalanes Canal. Tonight, we are going to see the famous aye-aye from Madagascar. This nocturnal lemur has large eyes, prominent ears, and a long middle finger that it uses to tap on trees and find insects beneath the bark.

DAY 5: VISIT OF PALMARIUM RESERVE

Meet several species of lemurs, including the famous aye-aye and other adorable species like the crowned lemur. You will explore the trails through the lush vegetation. Enjoy the beauty of the surrounding lakes, perfect for a relaxing stroll. Meet local artisans and discover the region’s traditions. Admire the diversity of endemic birds that inhabit the reserve.

DAY 6: PALMARIUM RESERVE – ANTANANARIVO – around 7 hours

Today, we will take the boat from our hotel to Manambato, where our driver will wait to drive us back to the capital, Antananarivo. On the way, you will again enjoy the beautiful scenery of this part of Madagascar. Once we arrive, we will check in at your hotel for the night.

DAY 7: ANTANANARIVO TO MORONDAVA (BY FLIGHT)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Morondava on Madagascar’s west coast. Upon arrival, meet your local guide and transfer to your beachfront hotel. Morondava is a quiet coastal town known for its proximity to the iconic Avenue of the Baobabs. Depending on the flight schedule, enjoy some free time to relax by the sea or explore the town.

DAY 8: SUNRISE AT BAOBAB ALLEY – KIRINDY NOCTURNAL VISIT – around 3 hours

Early morning departure to witness sunrise at the famous Avenue of the Baobabs, when the soft golden light enhances the striking silhouettes of these ancient trees. After breakfast back in town, transfer to Kirindy Forest Reserve, a dry deciduous forest rich in endemic wildlife. The afternoon is at leisure at the lodge or for a short forest walk. In the evening, enjoy a guided nocturnal visit in Kirindy, where you may encounter mouse lemurs, sportive lemurs, chameleons, and other nocturnal species.

DAY 9: KIRINDY – BEKOPAKA – around 7 hours Today, we will start the day by observing Kirindy’s fascinating wildlife during a day visit. You’ll have the chance to discover more of the forest’s biodiversity, including various bird species; lemurs and the remarkable flora. After your visit, head we will continue to the village of Bekopaka, the village near the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park. When we will arrive, we will check in to your hotel for overnight. Overnight in Bekopaka at Orchidée du Bemaraha hotel or similar.

DAY 10: VISIT OF TSINGY DE BEMARAHA NATIONAL PARK Today enjoy a full day visiting Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park. This park is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site and it is the most protected attraction here in Madagascar. Here we will see the cathedral, the viewpoint and the hanging bridge. We can meet animals living in this place, such as the sifaka lemur, species of birds and luckily the fosa. Overnight in Bekopaka at Orchidée du Bemaraha hotel or similar.

DAY 11: BEKOPAKA – MORONDAVA (STOP AT BAOBAB ALLEY FOR SUNSET) – around 10 hours Today we will return to Morondava. On the road, you will admire the beauty of nature a second time. We will pass by the sacred baobab and the lovers’ baobab, a place where lovers renew their vows. We will pass by the alley of the baobabs, the most wonderful place in Madagascar to admire the sunset. We will stop for a few moments here so that you can take some photos to remember the beauty of this moment. Overnight in Morondava at Vezo Beach hotel or similar.

 DAY 12 : VISIT OF BETANIA AND MANGROVE After breakfast, excursion to the fishing village of Betania, located across the river from Morondava and accessible by traditional pirogue. This authentic coastal village is inhabited mainly by Vezo fishermen, known for their ancestral seafaring traditions and artisanal fishing techniques. The visit provides insight into the local way of life, cultural practices, and the importance of small-scale fishing to the community. Continue with a visit to the nearby mangroves, an essential coastal ecosystem that protects the shoreline and supports diverse marine life. Enjoy a guided exploration through this unique environment before returning to Morondava in the afternoon. Overnight in Morondava at Le Vezo Beach hotel or similar.

DAY 13 : MORONDAVA TO ANTANANARIVO (BY FLIGHT)

Transfer to Morondava airport for your domestic flight back to Antananarivo. Upon arrival, meet and transfer to your hotel in the capital. Depending on flight timing, there may be time for last-minute shopping at local craft markets or relaxation at the hotel. Enjoy a final evening in Madagascar’s vibrant capital city.

This 3-day mid-range safari package is designed to offer our clients an intense taste of what Tanzania has to offer. We will experience all the excitement of an African wildlife safari in the most spectacular of landscapes. On this safari, we’ll visit Tarangire National Park, renowned for its elephant families and iconic baobab trees. Roaming onwards we experience the jewel that is Ngorongoro Crater, breathtakingly beautiful, and the best place in Tanzania to see the Big Five.

Day 1 Arrival in Arusha

You will be picked up from the airport by a Africa Joy Tours representative and conveyed to your accommodation in Arusha. Here you will overnight, relax, and prepare in anticipation of the adventures to come. Our partner lodge, the Arusha Planet Lodge, is an oasis of calm and aesthetic pleasure.

Day: 2 Tarangire National Park

Our safari guide will collect you from the lodge in Arusha for the drive to Tarangire National Park (approximately 2 hours). Tarangire, best known for its elephant families, savannah, iconic baobab trees, and seasonal swamps, is home to the life-giving Tarangire River. Animals gather at the river and giraffes, bushbuck, and hartebeest are often seen. The park is also home to buffalo, zebra, and wildebeest. These animals are closely attended by a range of predators, our Panthera friends, lion, and leopard. From the open roof of the truck, we will have the opportunity to absorb the landscapes and view the wildlife.

After a full day in the park, we will drive to the excellently appointed lodge (Karatu). Here we will enjoy dinner in the aesthetically delightful restaurant, relax, and spend the night in her capacious rooms.

Day 3 Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

Rise and shine! It’s an early departure for us today to the lush highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the seven wonders of Africa. Once we have reached the crater rim, we rumble down a steep track into the 600 m deep caldera, noting our passage through several climatic zones, to see a range of animals and birds. The caldera (collapsed volcano) is home to over 25,000 mammals ranging from the “Big Five”, lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard, to hippo, wildebeest, zebra, hyena, and more than 500 species of birds.
After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch in the crater, we will return to Arusha arriving early in the evening.
