Welcome to Tanzania! An African joy representative greets you at the airport and drives you to your lodge in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax and prepare for the 6-Day Mid-Range Highlights of Tanzania, as your safari begins in busy and lively Arusha, the main safari hub of northern Tanzania.

After breakfast, your African Joy Safari guide meets you at your lodge, and you begin your drive to Tarangire National Park. The journey takes about two and a half hours on smooth tarmac roads. Tarangire is named after the Tarangire River, the main water source for wildlife during the dry season. As you explore, you will likely see elephant families gathering near the river, along with giraffe, hartebeest, and bushbuck. Predators such as lions and leopards often follow them. Additionally, Tarangire hosts more breeding bird species than anywhere else on Earth, and you will also notice massive baobab trees, some believed to be over a thousand years old.
After a picnic lunch inside the park, you continue to your lodge in Karatu for dinner and relaxation.
Accommodation: Eileen’s Tree Inn
Meals & Drinks: All meals included; drinks not included
After breakfast, you head toward the cooler highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you stop at the stunning Ngorongoro Crater viewpoint before continuing through the conservation area toward southern Serengeti.
The Serengeti is famous for its sweeping grasslands and exceptional wildlife sightings. Although it offers abundant wildlife year-round, it is especially known for the Great Migration, during which millions of wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes move in search of fresh grazing. Depending on your travel month, you may witness one of the natural wonders of the world. Later, you enjoy a picnic lunch before settling into your luxury tented camp in Central Serengeti.
Accommodation: Land of Nature Camp
Meals & Drinks: All meals included; drinks not included
Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the Serengeti. The park hosts countless species, including buffalo, hippo, crocodiles, and impala. As you continue deeper into the plains, you increase your chances of seeing predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Because of these remarkable encounters, many travelers consider this day the most life-changing moment of the 6-Day Mid-Range Highlights of Tanzania.
You may choose early morning and late afternoon game drives with a break for lunch at camp. Alternatively, you can enjoy a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch inside the park.
Accommodation: Land of Nature Camp
Meals & Drinks: All meals included; drinks not included
After breakfast, you begin your journey toward Ngorongoro Crater while enjoying more wildlife sightings along the route. Once you reach the crater, the steep walls reveal a breathtaking wilderness of savannahs, acacia forests, lakes, and swamps. Formed when a massive volcano collapsed millions of years ago, the crater now shelters one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.
During your descent, you quickly encounter wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and more than 500 bird species. The crater also offers your best chance to see the endangered black rhino. After an exciting afternoon, you continue to your lodge in Karatu.
Accommodation: Eileen’s Tree Inn
Meals & Drinks: All meals included; drinks not included
This morning, you travel to Lake Manyara National Park, your final stop on the 6-Day Mid-Range Highlights of Tanzania. Although the park is small, its landscapes are incredibly diverse. The Great Rift Valley wall rises dramatically above Lake Manyara, a shallow alkaline lake that attracts thousands of flamingos and more than 500 other bird species. As you explore the evergreen forests, you may spot elephants, baboons, and if lucky the park’s famous tree-climbing lions.
After a picnic lunch inside the park, your guide drives you to a location of your choice, such as Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or Arusha Airport. Your safari ends with lasting memories of Tanzania’s beauty and wildlife.
