Itinerary Overview
3 Days Mt. Meru Trekking is an unforgettable adventure to a dormant stratovolcano located about 70 kilometres (43 miles) west of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Rising to 4,562.13 metres (14,968 ft), it stands as the fifth-highest peak in Africa. Moreover, Mount Meru forms the stunning topographic centerpiece of Arusha National Park. Its fertile slopes not only rise above the vast savanna but also support lush forests that shelter rich wildlife, including nearly 400 bird species.
3 Days Mt. Meru Trekking: How to Get There
• This tour begins and ends in Arusha or Moshi.
• Africa Joy Tours can assist with selecting your international flights; however, you will need to book them yourself.
• Fly to and from Kilimanjaro International Airport near Arusha/Moshi.
• Airport transfers can be arranged at an additional cost.
• Extra accommodation before or after the tour is also available at an added fee.
Day 1: Arrive in Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a private transfer will be arranged to take you to the Green Mountain Hotel in Arusha. Since the rest of the day is at leisure, you can relax and prepare for your upcoming adventure. The hotel, beautifully set on the slopes of Mt. Meru, provides an ideal environment for acclimatizing.
Later in the evening, we will meet for a detailed pre-climb briefing and an equipment check. During this session, we’ll also verify that you have the required medical coverage and travel insurance.
Dinner and overnight: Green Mountain Hotel (Bed, Dinner, and Breakfast included)
Day 2: Meriakamba Hut (Full Board)
We begin the day by driving from Arusha to Momela Gate. After completing the registration formalities, we start the trek under the protection of fully armed rangers. Along the trail, it is common to encounter wildlife such as elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, and antelopes.
Dinner and overnight: Miriakamba Hut
• Elevation: 1,387 m to 1,500 m (4,921 ft to 3,000 ft)
• Distance: 10 km
• Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
• Habitat: Montane Forest
3 Days Mt. Meru Trekking: Saddle Hut (Full Board)
Although, The trek from Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut is relatively short, yet it involves a steep ascent. As we follow the ridge, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone. Likewise, After lunch at Saddle Hut, you may take a short hike to the summit of Little Meru (3,820 m), where the sunset views are exceptional.

• Hiking Time: 3–5 hours

Summit Day: 3 Days Mt. Meru Trekking (Full Board)
Likewise, We begin the summit attempt at around 1:30 a.m., climbing steeply toward Rhino Point (3,800 m) and then onward to Cobra Point (4,350 m). We aim to reach the summit (4,566 m) in time for sunrise, where you may even see Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds. But also the final stretch follows a dramatic narrow ridge between sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer crater wall.
After a brief rest and brunch at Saddle Hut, we continue the descent to Momella Gate, where the vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to the Green Mountain Hotel in Arusha.

Day 1: Arrive in Tanzania.
Arrive anytime at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Overland Safaris will arrange a private transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to Arusha at Green Mountain Hotel, where the rest of the day is at leisure. We stay at the Arusha Green Mountain Hotel, which is beautifully located on the slope of Mt. Meru is a perfect place to prepare for your adventure.
We will gather in the hotel for a pre-climb briefing and an equipment check.
We will also confirm you have the appropriate mandatory medical coverage and travel insurance.
Dinner and overnight at: Green Mountain Hotel: Bed, dinner, and Breakfast-included.
Day 2: Meriakamba Hut (Full Board)
We drive from Arusha to Momela Gate. After a short registration at the Gate, our walk will begin with full armed ranger escorting us, simply, we can see along the way the wild animals including elephants, zebras, and giraffes, monkeys, antelope, and often elephants along the route.
Dinner and overnight stay at: Miriakamba Hut.

The walk will take us slowly along the ridge for a spectacular view of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone.
After a hot lunch at Saddle Hut, we can make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820m) for superb views just before sunset.
