(D)WHAT IS THE SCENERY LIKE ON THE MARANGU ROUTE?
The Marangu Route ascends through rainforest, moorlands and alpine areas before finishing in the glacial zone. Whilst the trek is very beautiful, this is the only route in which you descend back down the same trail.
Accommodation and food
The accommodation is in good huts, either dormitory or smaller four bed A-frames. The lower huts have spacious dining rooms, where you will be served meals cooked by your guide. All food and kitchen equipment will be carried by the porters and cooked by an experienced cook. It will be plentiful and wholesome, but may be limited by the circumstances. Beer and soft drinks are available at the huts. Your own supply of chocolate and high energy snacks is a good idea.
Water is available at several points and should be purified before drinking. All water at the huts will be boiled and some provided for drinking the next day. A comforting tip is to fill your bottle in the evening with boiled water for the next day, and to use it as a hot water bottle overnight. There are water points between the huts – check with your guide.

Day 1: Transfer from Arusha town to Marangu Gate – Mandara hut 2700m

5-day climbing Marangu route + 2 days in a hotel
Marangu or “Coca-Cola” route is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro today. It is the only route where overnight stays are in huts. It makes Marangu a good option for hiking during the rainy season.
The route takes its start at the south-east of Mt Kilimanjaro. The entrance to the route, Marangu Gate, is quite close to our climbing base at lindrin lodge. https://lindrinlodge.co.tz/ The ride there takes about 1.5 hours.
The well-trodden trail running through all the climate zones – from tropical rainforest to eternal ice – will treat you to scenic African landscapes.
Being the most popular and the least expensive, the route may be crowded in July-September and December – March.
A 6-day option is strongly recommended over the 5-day one for better acclimatization.
The climb cost includes:

- Pick-up and drop-off at Kilimanjaro International Airport;
- Transfer to the trail head – entry gate to Kilimanjaro National Park;
- Pick-up at the exit from Kilimanjaro National Park and transfer to the hotel;
