KILIMANJARO CLIMBING ROUTES
There are seven main Kilimanjaro climbing routes that one can use to trek the highest mountain in Africa. The 8th Kilimanjaro route, Mweka, is purposely for decent only.
MACHAME AND UMBWE ROUTE
The Machame Route and Umbwe Route leaves from the south-west side of the mountain, then routine the Southern Circuit through Barafu and Stella Point to raech Uhuru Peak. Likewise
SHIRA AND LEMOSHO ROUTE
Shira Route and Lemosho Route likewise use the Southern Circuit to reach the summit. Mweka route is used to descend; though both routes originate on the far west side off the mountain.
THE MARANGU ROUTE
Marangu Route begins in the south-east and approaches Uhuru peak via Gilman’s Point. It is the only route on Kilimanjaro that has hut accommodation for the entire climb and uses the same trail to ascend and descend.
RONGAI ROUTE
Rongai Route biggins from the North-East and passes via the Saddle located between Kibo and Mawenzi Peak to reach the summit through Gilman’s Point. The Rongai route descends through the Marangu Route.
NORTHERN CIRCUIT ROUTE
The latest and elongated route is the Northern Circuit which uses the same preliminary point as Lemosho but turns north before Lava Tower, rotating around the north of the mountain and approaching Uhuru Peak through Gilman’s Point.
