8 Day Zambia Adventures the ultimate African walking safari, our Zambia Adventurer takes you on a 7-night odyssey through Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. This is where the quintessential walking safari was practically invented, and you will be going out with the best available, Robin Pope Safaris. In simple camps and under canvas, all designed to give you the very best bush experience possible, your walking guides will bring out the magic of one of Africa’s wildest places.
Day 1: South Luangwa National Park
On arrival at Mfuwe International Airport a guide from Robin Pope Safaris will meet you. The drive to Nkwali Camp is 1 hour through colourful local scenes of villages, agriculture as well as bush.
Depending on your arrival time during the day you will enjoy a lunch looking out over the lagoon or afternoon tea before the afternoon and night game drive. Nkwali Camp is located in the Mfuwe area, overlooking the South Luangwa National Park near the Luangwa River. The area is well known for leopard and giraffe sightings and elephants can frequently be spotted crossing the river. The area is also home to other game such as lion, hippo and buffalo, and over 400 species of birds. Accommodation: Nkwali Camp
Day 2-6: South Luangwa National Park
After an early breakfast, we will be heading north to start our walking mobile safari. The drive is some 90km to the Mupamadzi River along a bush road, through remote parts of the park. We arrive in camp for lunch where the camp is already set up for our arrival with well-equipped walk-in tents.
The next morning we will be up at sunrise for the morning walk to explore this remote area with varied terrain and habitats where the game is shy and unused to man. From ants to buffalo, a bird’s nest to tracking a lion, you will learn the many facets of the bush. The mobile camp will be packed and moved to Camp 2 and lunch will be ready as you arrive late morning.
Day 4 will be spent exploring the area on foot before returning to the same campsite. On day 5 the camp will be moved again to Camp 3 during the morning as you walk further down the river. The Mupamadzi River is a major tributary of the Luangwa. All walks are led by an experienced naturalist and an armed game scout. Accommodation: Mid-range camping
Day 7: South Luangwa National Park
After an early breakfast, we will be transferred by safari vehicle to Nsefu Camp, where we will stay for two nights. Nsefu Bush Camp was the first photographic safari camp in Zambia and dates back to the early fifties. The camp is situated in the heart of the undeveloped Nsefu Sector of South Luangwa National Park on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River. The area around the camp has long been recognised for its phenomenal wildlife and the camp itself offers charm and comfort in total remoteness and seclusion.
The view of the river is superb and includes a terraced area where game grazes during the day. The bar, tucked in beside a huge extinct termite mound, overlooks a waterhole that is very productive for game.
Activities include walking through untouched wilderness, game drives and night drives using a spotlight as well as seasonal boating and village tours. Accommodation: Nsefu Bush Camp
Day 8: Lusaka – Departure
After breakfast we will be transferred by road to Mfuwe Airport for our flight to Lusaka Airport. From here you will continue with your own travel arrangements.
