From the rain forest between Kidia and Marangu, the Masaai lands on the north side with game viewing opportunities to the vast open agricultural spaces of West Kilimanjaro region.

Biking provides the perfect means to savour wonderful views and meet the diverse peoples who inhabit this region.

6 Days Cycling Kilimanjaro villages,

Day 1
Drive with guide and bikes to Kidia Village. From this high point commence the cycle through the Kilimanjaro rain forest to Marangu. On route, take in the picture postcard viewpoint at Mawa Seminary of Kilimanjaro with views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Camp for dinner and overnight at Marangu Hotel.
Distance covered 22 kilometers. 3-4 hours.

Day 2, Cycling Kilimanjaro villages,
Departing Marangu head northwards biking down with some ups to Ubaa Secondary School for overnight. There is a good view when at this school and with good sight you can see Lake Chala and Jipe to the other side of Kenya. You’ll also get a chance of meeting people around Kilimanjaro and to interact with them and learn few things. There are 28 kilometres from Marangu Hotel to Ubaa Secondary School, which takes 3-4 hours.

Day 3 Cycling Kilimanjaro villages,
Cycle from Ubaa Secondary School to Snow Cap Cottages for overnight near the border with Kenya. The roads are somehow bumpy but with different view points. When you reach at Snow Cap cottages, on your West you can see beautiful artificial and natural forest and on your East you can see sunrise and Chyullu Hills of Kenya to the distance. There are 32 kilometers to cover which might take 4-5 hours.

Day 4,Cycling Kilimanjaro villages,
Cycle from Snow Cap Cottages to Lerang’wa. It is the longest day though with a lot to be seen, you might get a chance of seeing wild animals like giraffes, zebras and gnu from Amboseli National Park in Kenya while they’re crossing the border to the Tanzania side and as you cross Amboseli forest. This is the land of the Masaai people, who you may meet along the road with their big herds of cattle. The scenery is spectacular during this section of the trip. The terrain is a little bit steep but most of it is down. Distance covered 47 kilometers in 5-7 hours. Overnight camp at Lerang’wa Secondary School.

Day 5 Cycling Kilimanjaro villages,
This day seems to be a refreshing day though somehow long; there are 45 kilometers to be covered from Lerang’wa to Wiri primary school, passing through West Kilimanjaro, an area dominated by huge farms, mainly growing wheat. This area is cool and this part is mostly down hill so there’s relief after the previous long day. This day might take 4-5 hours.

Day 6 Cycling Kilimanjaro villages,
Bike from Wiri Primary School to Boma N’gombe on the main Arusha to Moshi Road. There is 26 kilometers to cover though it is down hill. After 3-4 hours load the bikes into the vehicle and drive back to Moshi or to Kilimanjaro Airport for onward flight.
